Some Minor BUT Tolerable Quibbles
- The remote, it’s over crowded with buttons. Instead, I use the cable company’s universal remote control. I only pick up Samsung’s when I need to tweak some advanced settings. And most of the time, I press something unintended.

- VERY slight edge lit brightness on the black borders. Most of what you see on the TV will fill the screen so you won’t have any opportunity to see the effects in their fullest glory. HOWEVER, that’s NOT really bad. I have seen other TVs that perform far worse in the light leakage department.

My Personal Experience With The VIZIO VM230XVT LED TV
I grabbed this high definition LED TV as a replacement for my 20 inch LG TV that I use in my home office. I figured that it will go out any time soon and finding a good replacement is the way to go.

As for the replacement, I might as well grab something that's on the bleeding edge of technology, affordable, and at the same time, built to last for years. It seemed wishful thinking to search for a high definition TV that meets all of the standards above, but the VIZIO VM230XVT LED TV proves that such wonderful TV sets exists!

When I linked it and turned it on, I was amazed at the excellent picture quality. I have owned 4 high definition TVs and I have to replace all of them at least once. I have owned a projection LCD, a plasma, as well as CCFL and backlight LCD television sets. None of them could rival the picture quality that I get from the VIZIO VM230XVT LED TV.

The standard definition channels look as great and as detailed as high definition channels on this television set.

The only minor quibble that I have with it is that the volume bar doesn't move up when the sound is muted. The volume remains muted unless you un-mute it. A little annoying for me BUT with all of the pluses that the VIZIO VM230XVT LED TV offers, this is a non issue.

And the good stuff doesn't end there! Samsung has the same passion for preserving the environment. And they did a good job at this by significantly reducing the power consumption of the Samsung UN46B8500. It boasts 40 percent savings compared to conventional LCD TVs from Samsung back in 2008.

My Experience - Enjoying Every Bit Of The Samsung UN46B8500

The Picture Quality:
When it comes to video and picture quality, this TV is on top of the food chain. I just can't comprehend how the pictures could be better.

I'm yet to see any blooming effects that other users complain about, and I don't expect to see one any time soon. There are some minor issues though - when you set the judder reduction to 10, you will notice some distortion at times. BUT this is easily fixed by toning down this setting to 6. It smooths out the motion very well and without any distortion.

Aside from that, everything about the Samsung UN46B8500 is very pleasant.

The Audio Quality:
While the sound is OK, the digital audio output from the TV does NOT pass through multi channel audio coming from HDMI inputs. With that, you have to run extra digital audio cables coming from your DVD player as well as other parts of your AV receiver if you want to produce sound like Dolby Digital or DTS.

Energy Consumption:
Wanting to know if the Samsung UN46B8500 is energy efficient compared to other TV sets, I measured the electricity usage at 110 watts to 115 watts. And it does consume way less energy than my old 32 inch CRT TV set!

And to make the deal even sweeter, the energy saving mode set to auto doesn't do the picture quality any harm - it's just as good! I was very surprised and amazed at the very little heat it emits from the rear part of the TV set. Again, 2 thumbs up in this department!

While the looks of this TV set is exquisite and the build seems sturdy enough, there is one issue I encountered - the plastic at the bottom part of the TV is extended a bit too far...making it hard to fit into the stand I have.

Originally, I ordered the Samsung LN40B650. Looking at the reviews for this high definition TV, I was pretty sure that I made an excellent choice. HOWEVER, for some unknown reason, I started having doubts...leading me to take a closer look at the Samsung UN40B6000 and other LED TVs.

The Gamma Setting:
Now, it's stated that it comes with a mega contrast ratio of 3 million is to 1. Even with that, though, the gamma settings need to be adjusted by about +2 or +3 (the latter being the highest) values in order to keep the dark scenes in movie properly contrasted.

The Sound:
As for the sound, it's NOT bad. Now, if you are on the hunt for something more respectable, say a TV that comes with a theater sound quality, then this is NOT it. This TV set would fall way short for such lofty expectations. But then, which set would not? Here's a suggestion - go into the sound mode. Pick Custom, go to the Graphic Equalizer, set the SRS TruSurround HD on and listen to it.

If you are not satisfied with the sound, grab a sound bar. That should cut it.

And no matter how you look at it, this TV is a HUGE improvement over your old analog tube TV (dinosaurs of the TV industry).

- Very convenient. While this TV comes with a BIGGER screen, the space it takes up is less than a fourth of the space needed of the old and obsolete CRT TV.

- The weight. The Viore LED22VF60 High Definition TV weighs about an eighth of the old tube's total weight.

- Since this is an LED lit TV, the energy consumption is significantly lower. The last time I checked, it only consumes a mere 12 volts, which is a far cry from the 115 volt consumption of an average tube TV.

- As for the lifespan, the Viore LED22VF60 High Definition TV outlasts the normal tube TV by a mile - being able to last twice as long.

There is one minor, albeit a little annoying issue about this excellent high definition LED TV - the irritating sound quality. There is a quick fix however. First off, you need to go into the menu, check the Audio Settings, and switch the "Surround Sound" off to switch it back to the Standard Stereo settings.

Doing that will produce a very acceptable stereo sound. Along with that, the manufacturer of the Viore LED22VF60 High Definition TV has a headphone jack built into the back of the TV. This allows you to plug in a set of better sounding speakers to get the sound you are looking for.

I'm pretty sure that serious movie enthusiasts and fans will leave the sound from the TV behind and have their DVD player or their satellite tuner to play through and use a high end 5.1 set up for a complete theater like experience.

I've had this TV set from Toshiba for about a week now and get this - I LOVE EVERY BIT OF IT! Initially, I was looking at Samsung 7100, Samsung 950, Sony XBR8, as well as the LGH90. The decision to pick the Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U over these TV sets came only after a careful examination of the picture quality that they deliver.

As for Plasma TVs, they are out of the question since they look dim for my taste.

That's an easier problem to deal with than having a matte finish screen that will distort images all the time.

One way to improve the contrast ratio is to locally dim. The TV sets I mentioned above all do this except for the Samsung 7100. I was thinking back then why the Samsung 7100 could have a single backlight BUT produce darker blacks in some areas. I discovered that this TV set from Samsung have a slight blue hue over the whole picture.

When it comes to picture quality, the Sony XBR8 together with the Samsung 950 produce the best. However, they are too expensive for my budget to handle. The RGB backlighting is NOT worth $1500 to $2000 more.

The Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U, on the other hand, gives me local dimming, anti reflective coating contrast window, a scan rate of 120 Hz, as well as a bright and long lasting LED display. As for the size, I must say that it's rather large compared to other HD TVs. I think it's one of the larger 42 inch TVs when it comes to size. It came very close to not fitting in my desired spot so if you are living on a tight space, measure the dimensions of your stand or frame first since this TV is sort of tall, too.

I tested my PlayStation 3 and tried watching the whole first season on Lost on Blu Ray. I was shocked, my jaws drop! The high definition channel of ABC looks like standard definition compared to this one.
