My Experience - Enjoying Every Bit Of The Samsung UN46B8500

The Picture Quality:
When it comes to video and picture quality, this TV is on top of the food chain. I just can't comprehend how the pictures could be better.

I'm yet to see any blooming effects that other users complain about, and I don't expect to see one any time soon. There are some minor issues though - when you set the judder reduction to 10, you will notice some distortion at times. BUT this is easily fixed by toning down this setting to 6. It smooths out the motion very well and without any distortion.

Aside from that, everything about the Samsung UN46B8500 is very pleasant.

The Audio Quality:
While the sound is OK, the digital audio output from the TV does NOT pass through multi channel audio coming from HDMI inputs. With that, you have to run extra digital audio cables coming from your DVD player as well as other parts of your AV receiver if you want to produce sound like Dolby Digital or DTS.

Energy Consumption:
Wanting to know if the Samsung UN46B8500 is energy efficient compared to other TV sets, I measured the electricity usage at 110 watts to 115 watts. And it does consume way less energy than my old 32 inch CRT TV set!

And to make the deal even sweeter, the energy saving mode set to auto doesn't do the picture quality any harm - it's just as good! I was very surprised and amazed at the very little heat it emits from the rear part of the TV set. Again, 2 thumbs up in this department!

The Samsung UN46B8500's Build:
While the looks of this TV set is exquisite and the build seems sturdy enough, there is one issue I encountered - the plastic at the bottom part of the TV is extended a bit too far...making it hard to fit into the stand I have.

But it's NOT a biggie. I just have to carve away some plastic...and VIOLA! It fits. Other than this minor issue, the build quality of the Samsung UN46B8500 is fine.
