Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U - My Experience
I've had this TV set from Toshiba for about a week now and get this - I LOVE EVERY BIT OF IT! Initially, I was looking at Samsung 7100, Samsung 950, Sony XBR8, as well as the LGH90. The decision to pick the Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U over these TV sets came only after a careful examination of the picture quality that they deliver.
As for Plasma TVs, they are out of the question since they look dim for my taste.
Anyway, what exactly am I looking for a TV set? High brightness, sharpness, very high contrast ratios - these are the things I'm looking for in a high definition LED TV. As for the thickness and weight, they do play a part BUT they are not as important as the considerations above. After all, the TV set would be moved only once or twice at most so it won't be a huge issue.
This TV set from Toshiba uses a similar front layer found in Samsung TV sets. Along with that, they have improved their contrast ratio by a mile. Comparing it with other Samsung LED TV sets, the Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U shows darker blacks. While it is true that it will reflect lights significantly, I could easily block the light with a shade.
That's an easier problem to deal with than having a matte finish screen that will distort images all the time.
One way to improve the contrast ratio is to locally dim. The TV sets I mentioned above all do this except for the Samsung 7100. I was thinking back then why the Samsung 7100 could have a single backlight BUT produce darker blacks in some areas. I discovered that this TV set from Samsung have a slight blue hue over the whole picture.
When it comes to picture quality, the Sony XBR8 together with the Samsung 950 produce the best. However, they are too expensive for my budget to handle. The RGB backlighting is NOT worth $1500 to $2000 more.
The Toshiba REGZA Cinema Series 55SV670U, on the other hand, gives me local dimming, anti reflective coating contrast window, a scan rate of 120 Hz, as well as a bright and long lasting LED display. All in all, I'm more than satisfied with this TV set from Toshiba. Not to mention it comes with a very low selling price for what it offers!
